Westminster as Usual? Three Interpretations for the UK Democracy

Abstract The Brexit process has shattered the foundations of British politics, with prime ministerial resignations, government defeats, continuous rebellions and floor-crossings. These phenomena seem at odds usual decisiveness Westminster systems. However, aforementioned departures from tradition could be interpreted as compatible typical distance any empirical reality theoretical models, exceptions to rule due specificity European issue, or surfacing some deeper social, economic cultural tensions. Data alone are insufficient confirm alternative interpretations, although they existence long-term dynamics rather than short-term exceptionalism. Within this scenario, article suggests that a series institutional innovations introduced since late 1990s have facilitated political consolidation those tensions, contributed partisan dealignment, made room for potential departure model democracy.
